We have good news that we wanted to share with you as soon as possible. They say one image is worth thousand words, so here it is:

As many of you know, sharing to Facebook using the regular intent mechanism on Android is well, impossible because Facebook applications screwed up is not using the intent parameters properly. We are almost done with an explicit sharing option to Facebook to be available in the next update to the DailyHoroscope for Android.

Maybe by the end of the next week, who knows

Today in the early noon we have released the new version of DailyHoroscope.

The new version has reworked icons and the red color is back by a popular demand!

We also changed the former drawer icon to grey icon to be more universal and match with all the current themes and any future ones as well. We also decided to drop the drawer in favor of popup window which seemed to make more sense and fits better with the new Android 2.1 and 2.2 user experience.

We have also tried to fix a bug that occasionally resulted in the application crash. The crashes were very rare and we were able to get the information about the crashes with the recent change Google made to application control panel to include application crashes. After analyzing the logs we applied a fix. This should result in even more stable working of the application.

In the late afternoon, we realized that there was a small bug in the released version and we immediately started to work on eliminating it and soon posted the updated version to the Android Market.

DailyHoroscope application for Android, BlackBerry and iPhone gets a more universal date. We have set the date by default to an American standard which is month/day/year e.g. for the April 21 2010 (today) that would be 04/21/2010. This confused some people, not to mention is somewhat specific. So today we have updated the date format to be more universal. From today it will say “Apr 21 2010” and not 04/21/2010.

.: Notes about networking :.

When you first open the application, it can seem that it is “stuck”. This is because it tries detect and establish networking connection. Wait for 20-30 seconds and try to open your sign. If it works – great, enjoy the app. If however it does not work and you get error dialog, please try clicking on the sign again. If is still does not work, please go to “Connection Settings” and click the “Reset networking setting” button. Get back to the main screen and try loading a sign again.

If that still does not work for you, you can try to set the connection method manually in “Settings” menu, although we recommend using “Automatic”.  By default, networking method should be set to “Automatic”. You can switch it to other available options and there is “Test” button right beneath the selection. Press on the “Test” button to test your setting, you will be told whether the setting worked or not by either seeing:

“Connection established!” or “Connection FAILED” messages.

***Please note the first time you try to use the application it can prompt you with a permission dialog to connect to a web server. If you accidentally clicked “deny” then the application won’t work. You can change these application permissions by going Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications -> DailyHoroscope, then click the Edit Permissions menu item. There you can check whether it has “Connections” option set as “allow”

The wait is over, the most popular horoscope application for Android and BlackBerry devices is finally available for iPhone and iPod Touch users!

DailyHoroscope application allows you to instantly get daily horoscope for any zodiac sign through intuitive and user friendly interface.  The DailyHoroscope for the iPhone and iPod touch application also provides a short description of each sign, which is right beneath the horoscope for the day. With DailyHoroscope, your daily horoscope is just one click away.

Android version of  the DailyHoroscope application was the fist one we released and is the most feature rich at the moment. In addition to daily horoscope, it provides its users with compatibility charts and Chinese horoscope for the current year. DailyHoroscope for iPhone does not have the compatibility charts and the Chinese horoscope yet, but we are already working on adding these features in the near future.

The application requires iPhone OS 3.0 right now but we will be working so that the owners of the older versions of iPhone OS can also run the app. We will most likely be targeting 2.2.1 as the lowest OS version that we will support.

This morning I wrote that we started gradually pushing the new version of DailyHoroscope for BlackBerry to our BlackBerry users over the air. And now I have another great news. We have been working on DailyHoroscope for iPhone for some time and submitted it some time ago for App Store approval  and just now we got great news from Apple.

DailyHoroscope for iPhone has been approved and should be available from App Store within 24 hours!

It would be named “The DailyHoroscope“, although there is no application named “DailyHoroscope” and we really wanted to use our application name, it was unfortunately not possible. Apple’s App Store system did not let us register application named DailyHoroscope claiming that there is already application registered with this name. We believe that some other horoscope applicatoins are just squatting the name. We tried to contact Apple, but they responded that they won’t do anything about it unless we present them legal documents with rights to DailyHoroscope name, but that’s ridiculous isn’t it. You can’t really trademark those two words. Ohh well, it doesn’t matter really. We will keep giving you the best horoscope application on mobile any under name as long as you can find it. We were very glad that those squatters missed “The DailyHoroscope” which will actually state that we are THE DailyHoroscope application.

We have been hard at work, working on the latest update to the BlackBerry version of the DailyHoroscope. The newest version at the moment is 1.2.0. It is ready and we have started to push in app update as well as submitted the new version to the App World, which will hopefully get checked and approved an be available for in App World update within the next couple weeks.

• Explicit share menu button for even easier sharing
• Sharing of the Chinese zodiac for 2010 is also possible now

We had the poll with unfortunate low turnaround regarding the “?” badge placement to calculate the Chinese animal symbol and based on a few opinions that we received and out own considerations, we decided to place the badge on the bottom.

We added the new explicit share menu button that complements the original long click on the content. Also notice the new and cool icon of 3Banana notes from our partner – Snaptic for “My Notes” menu option.

We are adding the date selection tool to our mobile daily horoscope application on Android — DailyHoroscope, so that people who are not sure what animal in Chinese astrology corresponds to their birth date could easily enter their birth date and we will calculate their corresponding animal sign. To bring up the date selection dialog that looks like this (this is the smaller screen – QVGA device which has the least real estate and thus is the most problematic from user experience point of view)

You would click on the small question mark sign which we want to put either on top or bottom right corner of the screen.

We just published DailyHoroscope 1.7 to the Android market

New in this version:

Widget support (yey!)

Now you can add your sign as a widget on the homescreen. To add the widget, long press on an empty space on your homescreen untill a menu will pop up.
Select Widget or Android Widget and then find DailyHoroscope and click on it. You will see 12 signs – tap on the sing you want to add. You can add more than one repeating the procedure!

Note:  The widget icons will have the same color theme as the main application. In the future, we will allow for custom colors for each widget.

The widget icons will look best on a darker backgrounds.
